Freedom of Expression
One of the most fundamental principles of law is embodied in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, that is, freedom of expression. The founding fathers of our nation sought to remove itself from the tyrannical nature of the English monarchy. The founding fathers ensured this was the top principle set forth in the United States Bill of Rights.
So why is it, that when a person decides to exercise their fundamental right of freedom of expression, the public uproars against that person? For example, a guy on the news decided to dress as Adolf Hitler for Halloweem. He is not a Nazi, as if that should matter, but the public is enraged. What is the problem? He has the same rights as anyone else. He chose something that was a bit insensitive, but should that result in him being censured?
Is it as big a deal as the news has made it?
The media cuts to "less offensive" halloween costumes of celebrities, which included half naked women in what appears to be lingerie. That is considered less offensive than a costume of Adolf Hitler.
Give me a break. I think the guy has a right to exercise his freedom of expression. It did not hurt a single person.
What's the big deal?
